Uni students weigh in on school rules

What if you had control over Uni’s rules? What rules would you add or take away?

Ten Uni students were asked to come up with one rule they would add to Uni and one rule they would subtract from Uni. Here were their responses:

**Miranda Burgos, Subfreshman:** *I would add…* …Don’t scream in the hallways. *I would subtract… …*The rule that says you have to keep your shoes on.

**Karl Vu, Subfreshman:**

…Free pizza on Fridays.

…The rule that says you have to do homework.

**Edie Hoganson, Freshman:**

…The rule that school starts at 8:00, and change it to a later time.

**Seyed-Ahmad Dastgheib, Freshman:**

…A rule restricting the amount of power that teachers have over U of I courses and students taking them.

…The rule that says you have to stay in the classroom during study hall.

**Rithika Patnam, Sophomore:**

…Clubs should have more extensive application processes for leadership positions.

…The rule that you can’t eat or drink in some of the rooms.

…No talking in the bathroom.

…The grade limit on classes: for example, you can’t take Psychology unless you’re a junior or a senior.

…The building should be open longer, because it takes longer for some people to get picked up from school.

**Faizah Rauther, Senior:**

…Regulations on clean-up, especially in the kitchen.

…The department rule (the rule that requires students to take classes in four departments); we don’t have a ton of electives, so by junior or senior year it’s hard to make your schedule work with the department rule.

**Matty Tang, Senior:**

…Only seniors in the senior lounge.

…The rule making some classes mandatory- for example, you shouldn’t have to take 5 years of English.
