Uni track and field starts season

Track season kicked off at the beginning of January. This year, the team has six coaches, several more than what they usually have. The head coach is Sarah Walker, and the assistant coaches are Karl Knox, Noel Knox, Beatriz Perez Toche, Savannah Shrake, and Kevin Ma.

“It’s kind of a weird shift from the past,” said senior Annemarie Michael, “But I like all of the coaches, they are fun, and they like work as hard, but there’s a lot of new ones”

The team had their first track meet at the Armory February 8.

“I thought it went well… Everyone posted some pretty strong times,” said Michael.

The outdoor season begins March 30, with a meet at Paxton-Buckley-Loda High school. For the future of the season, junior Camden Coleman stays hopeful.

“I don’t know how many state qualifiers we’ll have this year but if I see improvement I’d be happy, and I think the coaches feel the same way.”

Michael thinks that the relays are looking good. “I hope that we’ll have strong relays because I think we have a lot of potential for a good 4×4 and 4×8.”
