Wednesday, May 6, more than 40 Uni students traveled for their second time, to Louisville, Kentucky.
Last semester, 50 Uni students from various clubs and sports, along with student council members, were nominated to represent their group in the new Uni High “CommUNIty Culture Council.” With this nomination, students took a trip to the Muhammad Ali Center and, newly this semester, the Roots 101 Museum.
At the Muhammad Ali Center, students toured the museum’s exhibits and participated in hands-on workshops focused on Muhammad Ali’s six core principles (i.e. confidence, conviction, dedication, giving, respect, and spirituality) to promote leadership, compassion, and inclusion at Uni.
This year the students went to the Roots 101 Museum, where they explored African American history and culture through the exhibited artifacts and museum curator.
The overall goal was to promote the values taught on the trips; in the classes/extracurricular activities they were nominated to represent to foster a welcoming and inclusive school culture.
