Uni has always promoted “no-cut sports,” encouraging new students to try a new sport and explore something out of their comfort zone. Entranced by the glamorous access to these sports, students are quickly faced with two hour practices five days a week, strict attendance rules, and almost no rest with games not only on schooldays, but weekends too. Compared to last year, the new attendance rules expect Uni athletes to attend almost every practice, even counting excused absences and missing due to injury towards your inevitable removal from the team.

Several Uni athletes are not only involved in sports, but have several other extra-curricular engagements, something Uni culture encourages and supports. Some athletes might have a piano lesson one day, or an internship another, but still stay dedicated to their team every other day and attend all the games. This new rule means that having a recurring engagement more than once every week, such as a piano lesson, job, or internship, can mean your forced dismissal from the team five weeks into the season.
So far, these new rules have been regarded differently depending on what sport you are in, but many Uni athletes are still missing maybe two practices a week and coaches are not having much of a problem with it. The question is: What happened last year for attendance rules to change so drastically? Regardless, Uni athletes this year will still face the consequences.
