Annual Sprabitat bake-off held Jan. 24, winners announced

Update:

The winners of the Sprabitat Bake-Off were announced. Karenna Hurst’s mint cake won for Most Creative, Nathaniel Wiesbrook’s caramel rolls won Best Sweet, and to little surprise, Mariam Vaid’s focaccia won Best Savory.

The Uni High Sprabitat Club hosted a “Bake-Off” fundraiser for the Fuller Center for Housing Jan. 24 in Uni Gym during lunch. Ten students competed with their baked goods and attempted to impress the students and teachers who came to try the food.

Each baker brought their own unique baked goods and goals. Josie Stierwalt, a junior, brought a sentimental dish, an angel food cake, saying, “My grandma always makes them for all my cousins’ and my brother and I’s birthdays, so I thought it would be fun to try.”

Mariam Vaid, a senior, on the other hand, came prepared for the competition! Commenting on her sun-dried tomato and gruyere focaccia, she said, “I knew that most people would be making something sweet, so in order to secure my first-place win, I was like, let me make something savory … I enjoy baking and I can show other people my talents.”

Voters can decide on three winners: the best savory good, the best sweet, and the most creative.  The winners have yet to be announced.
