A quick look at Uni High Boys Basketball
As we transition into Uni’s spring sports, we are taking a look back at all of Uni’s basketball teams and their seasons so far, starting with the boys’ team.
So far this season, the Varsity team has a 7-11 record through February 1st, and they are looking to improve it as they get closer to regionals. However, with a season tainted by injuries and COVID-19 related absences from the team, things have been tough.
Coleman Clougherty, a sophomore playing for both the JV and Varsity teams spoke on the toughness of getting through this season safely.
“We’ve been playing the best we can, but we can’t really control a lot of the things slowing us down, especially with COVID-19 stuff.”
Even with Uni’s Covid testing and mask requirements, players have had to test for 10 days straight following protocols on 3 separate occasions. However, the season isn’t all bad. According to Clougherty, the team has been developing very well throughout the season and continues to do so.
“We’re all improving every day and every practice, especially the JV guys. It’s been a season for improvement.”
With Uni’s no-cut policy, JV has had a total of 17 players at one time, leading to plenty of young talent joining the team. Overall, JV has an 0-10 record still, but has 3 games left to snag that first win of the season. The JV team’s final home game will be on February 7th versus Cerro-Gordo Bement, who Uni has yet to play due to COVID-19 cases earlier in the season.
