Gender in Uni High Service Clubs
April 9, 2020
Uni High has a number of clubs which are service oriented, such as Habitat for Humanity Club, Spring Initiative, Students for a Better World, Pediatric Cancer Awareness Club, and a number of others. These clubs are high-membership organizations, especially when compared to other clubs at Uni. These clubs also show a series of striking disparities in gender representation, especially when compared to “competitive academic” organizations such as Scholastic Bowl and Math Team. Girls are overall substantially more likely to become members of service organizations, and massively more likely to become leaders. Matty Tang and I set out to find out what causes these disparities.
I'm a sophomore in my first year of journalism. In my free time I like to run and play video games.
