On Friday, Oct. 24, Uni’s executive student council hosted the school’s first flag football event. Held from 1–3 p.m. at Florida and Lincoln Playing Field, teams competed while other students and teachers cheered from the sides. The event consisted of a “fun” game where the teams competed without a bracket and a “competition” game where teams did.
With five total teams, the competition half began with a round between U Block, a sophomore team, and Super Seniors that resulted in a tie. The Shenanigans and Minions competed in the second round, and the Shenanigans won. The first round’s tie breaker followed with victory for U Block. The Shenanigans and Ravens, a freshmen team, rivaled in the next round, where Ravens won. The championship round between U Block and Ravens resulted in a tie, and the game continued to a final tie breaker, where Ravens became the champion team.
“The kids really came out. They were good sports, but they also really fought hard for each of their teams,” Uni’s Assistant Director of Student Life and event chaperone Bridget Hughes said post-game. Executive student council added that they hope the event could become a yearly tradition.
