Uni High Boys Soccer played their final regular season game on senior night on Oct. 9, 2025 against Bloomington Central Catholic High School. As of Oct. 22, 2025, Uni High Boys soccer has a varsity record of 11-6-4 (Win-Loss-Draw), while being 3-0-0 in the conference. This success follows last year’s 17-7-0 record.
Aldo Zepeda’s, one of the captains of the varsity soccer team, opinion is: “I personally think that Uni High Soccer is in the top 2 best sports at Uni. I think the other one is tennis… I think that the sport that we can compete with the bigger schools, Central and Centennial, is soccer. Historically, we [Uni High Boys Soccer] have been able to compete with those schools. I don’t think we’ve had a losing season in 10 years.” This year, Uni tied with both Central and Centennial.
The value of the soccer team is more than a record for many. Zepeda described his experience in soccer as “really good. Most of the memories that I have at Uni revolve around playing soccer, and most of the relationships that I have built came from soccer. So I would say that it’s definitely giving me a good purpose at this school.” He continued that “It’s something I can always look back upon and be proud of.”
Zepeda has played soccer for 3 out of his 4 years at Uni, and also plays at a club outside of Uni. “I had been playing since I was three years old, so pretty much all my life.” He remembered that the classes at Uni above him had lots of people who also played club soccer, making the Uni teams very strong. However, he has also noticed a constantly lowering interest in people playing club soccer in the Champaign-Urbana area.
For the future, Zepeda has high hopes, expecting “at least one or two regional championships. I think after my senior year, the next year will be a decently good year. We have some good players coming in. Obviously, teams in the area are also getting weaker as well. It’s not just Uni… Hopefully, we can clutch up and get a couple more regional championships.”
The Uni High Boys Soccer varsity team begins their post season at regionals on Oct. 22 at 6:30 P.M. They begin by taking on Saint Thomas More at Saint Joseph.
