The death penalty is the most useless and inhumane practice I have ever seen. The executions on the death penalty are ruthless. The death penalty does not deter crimes and when someone is on death row they wait 20 to 30 years until they get executed. Also, these executions cost a lot of money. Money that comes from your taxes.
I want the death penalty banned. It is expensive and inhumane, and it’s easy to go wrong. There is nothing that can justify the killing of another human, especially not in the ways our government presents.
If you kill a killer the number of killers in the world does not go down. Yes, a 100% guilty individual deserves to be in prison for life, but their life doesn’t deserve to be ended early. Not a single person’s life deserves to be ended early.
The executions on the death penalty show no humanity. According to (Death Penalty Information Center) every single execution, lethal injection, electric chair, firing squad, hanging, and gas chamber is brutal. Keep in mind that all of these executions are still legal in one or more states. While many people think lethal injection is the most humane way out of all the executions, it is not and is just as ruthless as the rest. In the case of Genaro Ruiz Camacho, it took 2 hours for the executioner to find a suitable vein. (Death Penalty Information Center)
The rest of the executions on this list are not any better but imagine what happens when they are botched. It gets a lot worse. There are so many ways the executions could go wrong. One slip up and you traumatize every person in the room. I mean this isn’t even an execution if it’s botched, it’s just torture.
I also think that this practice goes against the Constitution. In the 8th Amendment, it says no cruel and unusual punishments shall be inflicted. But these executions are a perfect example of cruel and unusual punishment.
Many people think that the death penalty deters crime but they would be wrong. The use of the death penalty doesn’t deter crime(Death Penalty Information Center). When Tennessee agreed to accept the death penalty for people who commit sexual assault against children, there was no decrease in cases. (Death Penalty Information Center)There is another example with just the murder cases. There are more murders in the states with the death penalty than in the states without the death penalty(Death Penalty Information Center). So, why do we have this? Why? It’s been shown to not work at preventing crime on multiple occasions so why would the government still allow this?
These things also cost a lot of money. According to the (CATO Institute), the average cost for execution is around a million dollars. This money comes from your taxes. I think that instead, they could just keep life in prison because it’s cheaper(USA Facts).
Most of the time the prisoners will die before they even get executed. What is the point of having this whole thing if half of the prisoners die before their execution? I mean seriously. Why do we keep the prisoners in their cells for 30 years just for them to die and move other executions back?
The death penalty has been shown to not work in decreasing cases, it is very violent, it costs a lot of money, and goes against the Constitution. Why do we use a practice that goes against the Constitution? I do not think this practice should be used anymore and it should be banned.
