The Student-Faculty Advisory Committee (SFAC) and Student Council (StudCo) held their first meetings of the school year on Aug. 28 and Aug. 29, respectively.
SFAC: Wednesday, August 28
This was the first meeting of the year for the Student-Faculty Advisory Committee.
After going over procedures and structure, they moved to discuss any concerns of the classes or staff.
Staff members brought up the impeccable cleanliness of the third floor, and commended this year’s subbies for their efforts.
However, the first and second floors have seen plates of food, trash, and chairs left around. Facilities and Services do not clean these messes, and the task tends to be left with the teachers.
SFAC discussed how they could bring this problem to the students’ attention, and brainstormed solutions. One member suggested playing Barney’s Clean-Up song at the end of each lunch period.
There have also been concerns that people do not know who their class SFAC rep is and who to contact if they have a complaint. They discussed ways to make SFAC more visible and better communicate their work to the student body. A few suggestions were having a standing item on the Studco agenda for SFAC updates, and an email sent at the beginning of the year reminding students who their rep is.
To conclude the meeting, they had a provisional vote and approved the Moon Festival for a $1,500 grant from the Makino Fund, once they provide a more detailed breakdown of their budget. With this money, they can provide larger food portions and more activities.
Student Council: Thursday, August 29
Student Council saw proposals from four different clubs: Take Action, Future Business Leaders of America, Photography Club, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
All proposed clubs were approved.
The senior student council confirmed that Homecoming will take place on September 28 at Alice Campbell Alumni Center. Tickets will be sold at the door, and posters will be up shortly providing more information.
