The tennis team is sure to cause a racket this season. This year, IHSA changed the playing division into 1A and 2A from a single class, so Uni will no longer be playing against bigger schools.

Sophomore Sam Li looks forward to this change.

“I feel like we have a really good shot… we could get a lot of people in state and post-season.”

In addition, the team has a lot more meets compared to previous years. “The past two years we’ve only had five or six meets… this year we have about nine dual meets or something which I’m very excited to play in,” says junior Van Gundersen.

In terms of playing, the team looks “super good” and Gundersen believes that they “might go undefeated.” Both Gundersen and Li look forward to playing many teams, including Central, Centennial, and Urbana.

“Urbana is always the season opener and… we are defending champs for best team in Urbana,” says Gundersen.

The boys will be playing Urbana this Thursday (March 30th) at 4:30 pm Atkins Tennis Center.
